Frequently Asked Questions
- How do i become a member of the library?... For Gretsa University students and staff all you need is to present yourself at the library with the relevant identification documents. External (public) members are required to bring a photocopy of the original national ID/ passport, an official letter to confirm that one is a registered student of a tertiary institution (for students from other institutions) and a signed commitment by an administrator from place of work (if employed). Registration forms are available in the library and on-line. To register on-line visit library.gretsauniversity.ac.ke go to >>library collection & Services and click Register. On-line registration is only a means of submitting a form, other requirements for registration must be met before on-line registration is activated. If you have already registered but do not have a password and username, you need to request one here.
- How many Books can i borrow in total?... A single patron can borrow up to 5 items regardless of format provided the item being borrowed qualifies to be borrowed.
- What will be charged if i delay a book?... Overdue fines are charged per day depending on item type. Normal items attract an overdue fine of Ksh.2 per day and Ksh.20 per day for short-loan items
- Can i borrow CD-ROMS and video tapes?... CD-ROMS and other multimedia can only be used within the media center, however items thathave multiple copies may be lent for a maximum of 2 days.
- In case i need personal help who do i ask?... There is always a user-services-librarian ready to answer any research questions. Issues that may require further consultation may be referred to the Librarian
- What does short-loan mean?... Short-Loan means the item is available for only a short-term than normal borrowing period. Normal borrowing period is usually 14 days, or 30 days for Course texts while short-loan borrowing period is 2-3 days.
- In case an item i have borrowed is lost or stolen what do i do?... Report to the user-services librarian immediately, so that you can get the right advice or help. Users who lose library items while in their custody are supposed to replace the item with a new one or pay an amount equivalent to twice the cost of the original/lost item.
- Do i need a library card to borrow?... No. You can use any identification document that matches your user-details in the library system.
- How many times can i renew an item?... Up to three times. After that the item can only be returned. Short-loan items can be renewed twice only.
- Can i renew items on-line?... Oh yes! You can renew any item on-line, as long as you have not exhausted the renewal times of the specified item. Log-in to your account at http://library.gretsauniversity.ac.ke Go to "Check Out" and you will be able to renew your item. Renewal period is determined by the previous due-date.
- How do i get my OPAC passsword? ... By requesting from the Circulation Desk or email request to User Services Support
- How do i renew my library membership?... Students' accounts are renewed automatically at the beginning of each semester subject to registration for that semester. Other users must apply to renew membership and pay required membership fees.
- How do i activate email notifications?... Email notifications are activated by the Technical services department. You can also activate and deactivate your notifications by logging in to your account via the OPAC and selecting the appropriate options.
